Finding out that John Green works with Partners in Health was not on my life’s bingo card. Props to you for continuing Paul Farmer’s work and best of luck.

Thanks! I’m very proud to be part of PIH’s Board of Trustees and to have supported the organization for all these years. I was friends with Paul (hundreds of people could say as much), and no one of us will be able to continue his work, because it was so vast.

I learned a lot from Paul in knowing him for the decade before he died, and from reading his extensive writing. Maybe the most important thing I learned is that in rich countries, it often appears that the movement for global health equity is led by people like Paul, but in fact the movement is led by thousands of caregivers around the world, most of whom are community healthworkers (many, infuriatingly, still unpaid). It is easy and tempting to make global health equity movements about the (mostly white, mostly Global Northy) people who have the megaphones. But we are not the stars of the show. The stars of the show are people like Ruth, who make housecalls and provide care to the most marginalized among us.

So I’m very proud to be on PIH’s board of trustees alongside many caregivers and leaders, but I’m definitely not the star of the show.

coffee company

got-chavi asked:

why is the tea already selling out? obviously it's because people want it, but will the current blends restock? will that happen soon?

It is hard to be an unpaid social media intern for a coffee and tea company.

First, you must convince a lot of people to buy your tea and coffee–which is no small matter because you are asking people to buy something taste-based before they have tasted it.

If you are good at your job, thousands of people will buy the coffee and tea. Huzzah. They will be happy, since it is truly exceptional coffee and tea. And the world will suck less because more people will have access to comprehensive tuberculosis care. You did it. You are a good unpaid int–

BUT WAIT. There is another job. You must oversee the buying, packaging, and sale of the exact right amount of coffee and tea. If you buy too much, you will have spent money that you cannot recoup. This will mean less money going to fund comprehensive tuberculosis care simply because you thought too highly of your ability to sell coffee and tea.

Then again, if you don’t buy enough coffee and tea, you will lose out on sales, which will also mean less money going to fund comprehensive tuberculosis care.

So either way, you are kind of a failure!

Some varieties of tea (and soon all varieties because we’re close to selling out of the others) will be unavailable until September, when Keats & Co. properly launches and we are able to restock and reassess. We’re sorry about this!

In many ways, this is a failure, but it also gives us time to make sure the supply chain is working well and that our costs are controlled and all that kind of stuff.

Some personal news: As many of you will know, I have long been an unpaid social media intern for a coffee company that makes the world’s best coffee, delivers it to your door, and then donates 100% of profit to charity.

Well, today I have received a promotion.

I am now ALSO the unpaid social media intern for Keats & Co., a tea company LAUNCHING TODAY that makes the world’s best tea, delivers it to your door, and then donates 100% of profit to charity.

Keats & Co. makes tea that ranges from mint to Earl Grey to chai. Pick your blend, buy enough for your tea-drinking adventures, and then enjoy a fresh cuppa (or two) every day.

All profit from Keats and Co. will go toward funding efforts to provide comprehensive tuberculosis care in impoverished communities where TB remains a leading cause of death. Check out our tea! It’s so good!

Hi John! I'm not normally a person who appreciate coffee, but I'm telling you - a coffee company - this because I just brewed my second cup of awesome coffee and I think I'm finally understanding what people mean by a Good Cup Of Coffee. I understand why you gave up your mortal shell to become a corporation for this

I’m so glad you’re enjoying your coffee! It really is so good, and nobody’s paying me to say that.

(Currently only available in the U.S., because a big part of what makes it special is the freshness.)
