See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

hex-is-gone asked:

Are you John Green or a Company? or both?!

According to the U.S. Supreme Court, I am actually TWO PEOPLE–one a human being endowed with a soul called John Green, and the other a corporation that gives its profit to charity called the Awesome Coffee Club.

Both these people have equal rights before the law, except that the corporate person can’t commit assault or go to jail or be killed by the state, whereas the non-corporate person can be all of those things.

It’s fun! It’s a great system! Buy our coffee!

And unlike the coffee you currently drink, our profit doesn’t go toward making Howard Schultz richer and better-equipped to bust unions. It goes to expand access to healthcare for pregnant people and kids. Drink better coffee that you can feel better about.

Yesterday I brought Bud Light to a BYO dinner party and everyone was like, “hahaha we love your political statement,” but no, I just like shitty beer.

Like, I do not think giving money to Anheuser Busch is an effective way to support the rights and humanity of trans people. I try to do that through my voice and my donations. I drink Bud Light because I’m a middle-aged dad in Indianapolis with bad taste.

some things she could’ve gotten into

some things she could’ve gotten really into other than working to undermine the rights and humanity of already marginalized people:

1. the restoration of pinball machines.

2. combating tuberculosis, which kills over a million and a half people every year even though no one in the 21st century should have to die of tb.

3. rare book collecting

4. metallurgy

5. reforesting large swaths of Scotland

6. molecular gastronomy

7. pouring money into professional women’s football

8. sailing

9. fighting maternal mortality in the former British colony of Sierra Leone, where one in twenty women still die in childbirth as a direct result of the horrors of colonialism.

10. wine

Since 2000, tuberculosis has killed around 40 MILLION PEOPLE–more than AIDS, malaria, Covid, or any other infectious disease. This year, it will kill over 1.7 million people.

The global TB pandemic is getting worse. Rates of infection, disability, and death are going up. Next year, tuberculosis will probably pass Covid and again be the leading cause of infectious disease death on Earth.

Where is the outrage? Where are the hundreds of billions of dollars we need to expand access to treatment and to improve the quality of available treatments? We found this money for Covid. We found it for HIV. Why won’t we find it for TB? Why does the rich world ignore this disease?

End TB.

i am so mad about this the world's leading cause of death is poverty
