That’s all to say that I wouldn’t have gotten this perspective as young as I did without the impact TFiOS had on me. At least in my eyes, you succeeded in this endeavor. Augustus has a monologue about how he and Hazel Grace are too sick to go to an art museum, and he’s angry because he wouldn’t see people who were sick in art. TFiOS really shaped how I viewed art going forward. I even won an award for an abstracted portrait I made of Hazel. I made work that wasn’t meant to be canonically pretty, it was made to demystify and deromanticize illness. ½
